The First of Many

Danica entered the gym feeling confident. She was ready to challenge the Gym Leader. She walked into the large building and listened as she walked into the hall. "Hello, I am here looking for a gym battle?" Danica called out to anyone that was present. Umbreon walked beside her and called out as well trying to gain someone's attention.

Suddenly, the lights flickered, and in an instant, a young girl with brown hair was standing in front of Danica. Her hair was tied with a pink ribbon and in a pigtail fashion, and she wore a blue long sleeve dress with a white collar and a pink cravat-like tie of some sort. She also wore pink leggings underneath the dress and sported blue shoes with laces that wrapped around her ankles.
"Welcome to the Rustboro Gym! I am the gym leader here, and my name is Roxanne. Are you sure you want to challenge me to a battle?"

Danica started as the lights flooded the room with a luminous sheen. She looked at the girl thinking that she looked very pretty but very strong. She lifted her head confidently, if she could beat this woman she would be one step closer to battling Phoebe. She stepped forward her beige top flowed effortlessly, it matched her perfectly. Danica's eyes burnt with determination as she looked at Roxanne, "Yes I challenge you, and I won't lose. She told the other girl as she looked to Umbreon who nodded to her.

Roxanne grinned, and spoke with a happy, but booming voice, "Very well! Let this gym battle begin!" As soon as those words left her lips, the gym leader threw a PokeBall into the air. It released a beam of red light which revealed her first Pokemon: a Geodude.

Grinning and ready for the battle Danica looked down to Umbreon and asked, "You think you can handle it?" Umbreon nodded her head and leapt onto the field. She then waited to see who had the first move, after all she didn't want to be rude. This was shaping up already to be a fun battle.

"You may have the first move."
Roxanne said with a sly grin. She seemed to have some sort of idea. Her Geodude looked very determined to win, yet there was some hesitation hidden in its eyes. As if fighting the Umbreon was not agreeable with it.

Danica knew that she could not lose this she had to make it all the way if she wanted to meet Phoebe. She pulled her hair out of her face and then looked at Umbreon, her eyes looked as if she was willing to do anything to win. "Now Umbreon, use Confuse Ray and then follow it up with Dark Pulse." She told her pokemon as she was getting warmed up. Umbreon shot forward and released a ominous light at Geodude, then she ran quickly behind it and attempted to hit it with a powerful blast of dark energy.

"Geodude! Turn around and don't look at the Confuse Ray attack! Instead, duck the Dark Pulse and use Rollout!" Roxanne commanded with a pointing finger, and the Pokemon nodded. Turning around and averting its gaze from the colorful ball of light, the Geodude instead focused on trying to dodge the Dark Pulse, and managed to do so just in time. Then, rolling into a ball, the Geodude aimed itself at Umbreon with Rollout.

"Umbreon, dodge that and then use Assurance! Then try and use another Confuse Ray." Danica commanded to Umbreon. She managed to dodge the Rollout and then started to move forward to use Assurance. As she tried to land that attack she also began to use Confuse Ray again.

"Geodude! Try using Rollout again to negate both attacks!"
Roxanne shouted, and the rocky Pokemon nodded, before rolling up into a ball and hurtling itself at its enemy.

There was no time to dodge and Umbreon was hit by the Geodude. Luckily for Danica,
Umbreon was resilient and got up right afterward. She decided to change strategies and stay further away, "Now Umbreon use Dark Pulse!" She watched a dark aura-like rings form and then hurtle toward Geodude. If this hit it could do some major damage due to the fact that Umbreon's attack matched it's type.

"Ack! Geodude! Try to dodge it!"
Roxanne shouted with worry, but a second too late. The Dark Pulse attack met its target, and the Geodude was blown backwards upon impact. Getting up slowly, the Geodude seemed tired for a second, but it was quickly replaced with fiery determination. The attack may have done some damage, but the Geodude was a very sturdy Pokemon, and so it could withstand the attack.
"Geodude! If you're feeling okay, then try another Rollout!"
Roxanne commanded, and she knew this would do much more damage. After all, Rollout had been used a few times in a row. This raised its attack power.
