Roark had not expected a voice to call him, thankfully he had returned from the mines earlier than anticipated, That was good news for this trainer whom Roark would wave forward, if the trainer did so the gym leader would stand upon his given position upon the ground, the rocks within the area granting a home field advantage as many gyms usually did. "Welcome! This is the Oreburgh Pokémon Gym! I'm Roark, the Gym Leader! I'm but one Trainer who decided to walk proudly with Rock-type Pokémon! As the Gym Leader, I need to see your potential as a trainer. And, I'll need to see the toughness of the Pokémon that battle with you!" he would declare with a smile.

As Roark had already declared a battle would be happening, "This will be a three on three pokemon battle, with only the challenger being able to change pokemon mid battle" he would also state giving out a standard rule. This would then have him take a single pokeball from his belt, pushing the white button, this sphere would enlarge within his hand, he would then toss it in to the air. Opening to reveal a mystical energy that held the pokemon, it would soon take the form of...a rock? Yes Geodude a standard rock pokemon known by all.

"I'm happy to oblige," Kire replied to the confidence in Roark's voice. He had known that this Gym was known for Rock types, but he was left unaware of what the Leader had in his arsenal. He didn't want to use Quilladin quite yet, saving the strengths of the grass type. Sinistra would do horridly against a Rock type... so that left Thresh. Gripping the dragon's Pokeball, he tossed it into the air and released the grinning Gabite.

Thresh took his battle stance once he reached the battle arena and stood across from Geodude. His eyes narrowed in an attempt to appear threatening, and he was radiating confidence in his ability. He had been caught by surprise back at the Pokemon Center against the Rocket member, and he wasn't about to let his pride take any more of a hit. Looking toward his trainer, he awaited his command.

Considering his options, Kire made his decision. Sandstorm would boost Thresh's speed, but provide nothing else, and if I need to switch in any other Pokemon, it would only hinder us. So, save it until it's needed. Rock types are slow as-is. Instead, let's harm their accuracy. "Use Sand Attack," Kire called out, "then Dual Chop without hesitation! Use the sand as cover!"

Springing into action, Thresh threw himself forward and dug his claws into the dirt ground of the battlefield's floor. Thrusting those claws upward, he flung the stand toward Geodude's eyes, knowing that an attack alongside the sand would make it more difficult to dodge both. After the sand was flung forward, his claws began to glow as he slashed them down toward Geodude, attempting the Dual Chop attack.

It would seem, Roark was completely out of his depth, he had not anticipated the speed of the dragon type pokemon nor the release speed of its attack, thus by the time he could call out a command, the rock type pokemon known as Geodude would be sent flying from the Duel Chop, the power difference showing itself, the Geodude would be sent flying past the rock type trainer whom stared in surprise. "Wow, thats some fighting speed" he said as he called his pokemon back, before releasing yet another pokeball. Upon the light erupting from the body of the rock snake, the gym leader would already be sending out a command. "Onyx, Rock Tomb"ordered Roark.

The snake type pokemon would release a single, long roar of its own name, as it did, a white aura surrounded the snake pokemon which then produced a large ring of boulders that spun dramatically around the head of the rock pokemon, with its roar complete it would release a secondary roar that would act as the command, the rocks flying towards the dragon type aiming to encase it and drastically lower the pokemons running speed, "Onyx, harden" Roark ordered after the initial attack, he was aiming to counter the level difference with stat drops and gains. Rock pokemon werent that easy to defeat.

Kire blinked in surprise as he watched Thresh effortlessly take out Geodude in one hit. Perhaps, for once, one of his battles were actually working out for him. One down, two more to go. Still, even though that thought brought a deep sense of satisfaction, looking up toward the looming rock snake was enough to not let his pride cloud his judgement.

Thresh didn't have time to react after such a quick shift of Pokemon, and before he could even turn toward Onix and gauge his next move, the Rock Tomb was falling toward him. He lifted up his arms knowing it was too late to dodge. The best he could do was lessen the impact as they fell down and surrounded him, cutting his speed as the Onix used its Defense Curl.

With a grimace, Kire could tell that power would not be the advantage against this foe. Instead, he nudged Quilladin. If speed is not to be taken advantage of, another lies in wait. In a flash of red, Thresh was withdrawn from the battle, leaving Quilladin in Onix's wake. The grass type seemed hesitant, but make his way into the battlefield. He glanced at Kire for direction, seemingly not used to coordinated battle.

Unfortunately, Kire was at a loss. "Erm," was all he could muster, "do your worst!" Quilladin was an unfamiliar Pokemon from an unfamiliar region, and although a grass type, he was unaware at any of the moves this particular Pokemon knew at the moment. In his haste to take on the Gym, he hadn't even took the time to read up on it. The strategic advantage was on Roark's side, but that wouldn't stop the shaky duo.

With no command, Quilladin had to come up with his own plan. Looking up toward the giant rock type, he figured it was best to start chipping away at those defenses. Five green balls of energy suddenly formed around him and shot at Onix, a Leech Seed attack. If it hit, it would take away gradual damage and heal Quilladin in the process, regardless of whatever defenses he had. For good measure, the grass type also felt his claws glow green as he rushed toward Onix. He may not be the quickest Pokemon, but he was still probably speedier than a rock type. He slashed the energy out in the form of a Vine Whip aimed toward the rather large target.
