Time is but a Gentle Stream, the Past Still at its Murky Depths

Evangeline walked through town, her wings tightly folded against her back and a heavy and baggy jacket making sure their imprint was near impossible to see. Nev sat on her head, staring wide eyed at everything inside the small town.

"What's so exciting?" Evangeline asked, looking boredly around, "It's just a bunch of buildings and a Pokemon Center."

"You're only seeing the boring stuff, Angie," Nev replied with a smirk, "We could go see the Lake of Rage, who wouldn't want to with a name like that?"

"Don't call me Angie. And I wouldn't," Evangeline replied, but she started heading to the north of town, to the excitement of Nev. "Ever since we came to Johto, you've been so annoying. I'll go to your little lake, but only if you don't speak a word on the way there.

Nev gave a hearty nod, and a sly smile that would seem impossible on a normal Pikachu. They headed north, Evangeline ever aware of her surroundings, just in case.

Dark was being chased around town. He twitched his ear hearing an incoming projectile, ducking and dodging, but getting tackled by a stranger. After a small struggle, the two got up, the stranger having his duster, unfortunately. The boy's wolf ears and tail were visible as he snarled. 'W.. wolf ears and a tail!? aaah,' the boy screamed, running away. Dark picked up his duster putting it back on before he fastened his bandanna over his ears, turning and walking away, or starting to.

Evangeline suddenly heard a scuffle in the middle of town. She heard the words 'wolf ears' being thrown around, and her thoughts immediately went to her wings. "Someone like me?" she muttered to herself and turned around, going to help whoever it was being attacked.

"Hey wha-" Nev began, but stopped when he noticed the hoard of attackers.

The man got up and began walking away, turning his back on the hoard. This seemed like a mistake, as Evangeline watched as a small boy picked up a jagged and heavy stone, and threw it with all of his might at the man.

"Watch out!" she called, making a run toward him, but too far away to do anything about the rock.

The rock hit Dark in the back of the head, taking his bandanna with it, and exposing his ears again. He snarled, turning his head and looking at the boy. Had the boy been an adult, he would have punished him, but since he was young it didn't matter. Besides, he wasn't in the mood for violence, so he just turned and walked further, ignoring the fact his ears were visible, as everyone had seen them anyway.

Evangeline jogged to catch up to Dark, and started walking beside him, to the awe and disgust of the townspeople. "You okay?" she asked, maintaning a steady pace beside him.

Nev looked at his ears with wide eyes, "you have dog ears," he said, smiling up at him.

.Dark turned his head looking at Evangeline. 'Its nothing a few hours won't fix,' he told her, rubbing his ear that was tingling a bit. 'Their not dog ears. They're wolf ears,' he then said to her pokemon. 'And you talk. So is there really any difference?' A bit into the walk, Dark curled his tail up into his hand, rubbing it since it got hurt a bit as well

"A wolf, sounds pretty cool." Evangeline cooly observed Dark's tail, now in his hands. "A tail too? If it's not too much to ask, can you tell me how you got like this?" Her thoughts were on the lab that created her, maybe they were busy after she left. She was getting really hot under her heavy jacket, her down feathers making matters worse. She shifted uncomfortably.

"Well, some Pokemon can learn to talk, it's not like I have do- er- wolf ears." Nev jumped off of Evangeline's head and onto Dark's. He started poking his ears with one paw, looking at them curiously.

'I can't completly remember,' Dark told Evangeline. 'All I know is I was hurt by my mother and wish her death.' He looked up before he finally noticed the sun was out, covering his eyes shrieking before he fell over. Dark aura individuals couldn't stand light long. It was a miracle he could as long as he did.

Evangeline had oddly quick reflexes, and she dove down to catch Dark before he slammed into the ground. Unfortunately, his weight and momentum caused her to painfully slam into it instead. Now she was stuck with an uncontious Dark preventing her from getting up by laying o top of her.

Nev tugged at Dark's sleeve, but a little Pikachu couldn't do much to move him. "This would be a bad situation if it weren't so funny," he laughed, receiving a glare from Evangeline.

A couple of folks moved the group to an inn room after seeing them hurt some. They left, Dark having been set in a bed and Evangeline having been left standing by the group.

"Well that was odd. The townspeople attack him then turn around and help him. People are so strange." She turned to make sure no one else was in the room before removing her jacket. Stretching her wings to their full span, she leaned and relaxed against a wall.

"We'll rest here for a bit then head out to the lake. Hopefully this guy won't wake up any time soon, even if he has ears, he probably would freak out at wings. People are hypocrites, it's a sad fact." Nev nodded and curled onto the other adjacent bed, quickly beginning to snore.

Dark woke up a few hours later, wondering if the stranger was still around. He sat up and rubbed his head, mad ajd starting to have a thin mist of black around him.

Dark would wake to find Evangeline and Nev sprawled out across the spare bed. What was meant as a short nap quickly turned into something deeper. Her wings were in full view and bent at strange angles that didn't seem comfortable. Her body stirred, but showed no sign of waking, even with the growing darkness in the room.

Dark stood up noticing Evangeline's wings. He walked over to her touching them before he quickly pulled his clawed hand away. He had changed forme, breathing heavily as a anthro wolf that didn't know what to think of the wings.

As if sensing danger, both Evangeline and Nev tensed and jolted awake. Taking in the sight of Dark's wolf form, they stared open mouthed and wide eyed at him. "Are you okay mister?" Nev asked, walking forward and sniffing him curiously, his Pokemon instinct somewhat taking over.

Dark looked at Evangeline. "You have wings," he asked her. He carefully sat down, knowing that at any time Evangeline could run. "They look beautiful," he said complimenting her, carefully touching her wings so not to scare her. He was still breathing heavy before he turned himself back to normal, looking at her. "Where did you get your wings from," he asked her.

It was when he asked that question that two scientists broke the door down, looking at the two and smiling in astonishment. "The civilians were correct! These two are different! Let's take them," one yelled, the other fumigating the room to make them pass out. It worked on Dark, the male passing out and falling down asleep onto the mattress on his back.

Evangeline was quick to react, but not fast enough. She lunged out at one of he scientists, but quickly crumpled to the floor, the fumes having taken effect.

Nev felt lightheaded, but it seemed some sort of aspect in his Pokemon body kept him from immediately passing out. Knowing speaking would cause even more danger, he nudged Evangeline's body, trying to urge her to get up. "Ge- Pikachu! P-Pi" His efforts seemed useless, and he could only watch in horror what came next.

.The scientists snagged up Evangeline, her pokemon, and Dark, carrying them away after binding him and fuming him to sleep. They took them to a building under tight lockdown, stuffing Evangeline and her pokemon in ne room and dark in another. They knew who she was, abut Dark was a stranger, them unsure how he'd react, and thus chaining him to a bed to prevent hostile action. They wired him to machines, taking samples of his dna paying close attention to his ears and tail.

'Hello Evangeline,' a scientist said when she was awake. 'You miss labs?' He walked, leaning against. a table looking at her. 'You took up shelter with another like you. If it makes you feel better, he will be subjected to twice as much testing as you had, since this project has come far. In fact, I operate the branch pertaining to regular animals, so relax kiddo.' They had taken her jacket leaving her wings exposed, and the man looked at them smiling. He left a bit later, a few others coming in to feed Evangeline, being cautious of the chain around her ankle binding her to the wall.

'evangeline, we were told to tell you not to expevt much testing. You aren't a mix of an animal, instead pokemon, so you're safe. However, you'll be transferred to your appropriate facility tomorrow.'

Evangeline's only response was an assortment of very colorful words, and a look that could send shivers down anyone's spine.

Nev groaned and slowly got to his feet, staring agast at the lab surrounding them. Looking up at the scientist, and evil grin crossed his face and his cheeks sparked. He awkwardly launched a ThunderShock at the scientist that spoke, though he lacked the skill of doing so, as he wasn't a natural Pokemon.

The scientist jumped back from the attack, having the other put Nev down for a hap and into a cage. the fist one took her communicator. 'Administration, we have an akward occurence in sucbject one's room. Come investigate,' she said before leaving the other scientist to lock the door. 'Just so you know, that pretty boy of yours is already missing an arm,' she said to Evangeline at the door, giving a grin knowing she probably p---ed her off.

A feral and terrifying growl escaped from Evangeline. "You'd better be careful," she said with a sickly sweet voice, "You may find your own precious arm ripped off in the near future. Something is bound to happen to your pretty face too." Evangeline bit back her tongue, not wanting to give away the plan that formed in her head, and knowing that letting her emotions get out would cause a slip up.

Nev struggled in his cage, but couldn't do anything to help himself. "Well FU-" he said, before quickly remembering that he shouldn't speak. Not many scientists knew of his situation, most believed his father committed suiscide out of grief for his son. "Erm, Pikachu."

The scientist didn't catch the pokemon speaking, her chuckling. 'Good luck kid.' She left shutting the door, the other scientist's radio going off. 'Subject two has escaped operation. repeat.' Banging occured outside of Evangeline's door, Dark finally knocking it open and falling forward, hitting the ground. The scientist had been right- he was missing an arm. He got dragged away by scientists screaming for the girl whose name he didnt know to help before the door shut

Evangeline tried to shout reassurance at Dark, but was't sure if he had heard. White hot anger seared through her, and a strange energy did as well. Grabbing hold to it, it was just what she needed. She grabbed the chain around her leg, and a cold ice began forming around it. Once frozen solid, she slammed it into the ground, effectively shattering it. She did the same to the other one. "I can use Ice Beam, who knew?" she said with a smirk, happy at her newfound Pokemon abilities.

Walking over to Nev's cage, she let him out. He immediately jumped onto her head. She headed over to the door and began freezing the handle, planning on shattering it to get it unlocked.

'No you don't,' the scientist told her, tackling Evangeline to the ground. 'Guards,' she called, others coming in and starting to help hold her down. Dark's screaming from tue operation could be heard, the door left open just for her to hear.

Smirking, Evangeline put her hand right onto the scientist's cheek. "Hope you said goodbye to your pretty looks, you evil bit**" She again used her newly found power, this time freezing the side of the scientist's face until it was just a blackened husk of dead and rock hard skin. If it continued to freeze, severe hypothermia would ensue, making all of the blackened skin fall off completely.
